this week, long hypnotic slowly-developing tracks from jonáš gruska (composed from sounds recorded surreptitiously inside a japanese pachinko parlor), freight cell (a side project of scottish artist fletina, focusing specifically on abstract, repetitive dronescapes), and brad rose (constructed from sounds produced by an interactive installation with autumn leaves). and a vertical portrait of london on a single day, as kate carr documents a journey across the city on new year’s day, beginning at 20m below sea level in the london underground, and finishing at 240m above it at the top of london’s largest skyscraper. this, as always, was accompanied by the latest selection of listener-chosen favorites from the aporee soundmaps, and an intro recorded for us in the united states (at the great wave farm residency center) by regular contributor mark vernon.
we also acknowledged the sad passing of canadian electro-acoustic composer chantal dumas, who died on the 17th of may in montreal. we are planning a show in her memory, to be premiered in the coming weeks. please let us know if you would like to contribute in some way to its production.
