i’m going to keep this brief – it’s cold and i need to go heat the stoves. it was -24C when i stepped out my front door early this morning. but the sky is bright and the air is sparkly, so i’m not really complaining. time to put the kettle on again though.
great sounds this week from old favorites éric la casa (with seijiro murayama) and maggi payne, and new(er) favorites giselle and franki wals (with chang deng-yao). éric and seijiro tour paris making short vocal interventions and capturing the results. giselle documents her local nebraska environment with field recordings, scattered instruments, voice and objects. maggi collects strangely unfamiliar sounds like dry ice, space transmissions, and local trains. and franki documents taiwanese environments with erhu played by deng-yao. aporee sounds this week come from russia, france, spain, and canada, finishing with a sound that feels appropriate for this moment: ice forming on a lake. and we began evenything with a framework introduction recorded in the u.s. by long-time friend of the show, steve barsotti.
