this edition of framework:afield, entitled women in the field, has been produced in the uk by jilliene sellner. for more information on her work, see http://www.jillienesellner.com. producer’s notes:

Women in the Field is a brief exploration of the experience of females who practice field recording. I’m certain there is much more to be said on the subject particularly from those outside of Europe and North America, who do not identify as cis and/or identify as a person of colour and so on than the contents of this episode. This is just a starting point. I am extremely grateful for the contributions from the artists.

British born Canadian composer and sound theorist Andra McCartney sadly passed away in October 2019. The episode, which includes a reading of a paper co-authored by McCartney, was produced just days prior to her passing and is dedicated to her memory and her decades of work on the experience of listening.

  1. I really enjoyed listening to this, feel vulnerable as well for myself as a woman and for the women recording. Like the sound recording and the voices of each person’s experience.
It’s 8 a.m. and a great way to start the day. I love listening to sound. The sound of the voices is telling to me reveals shift in the voice. nervousness. I wonder how much women repress.
Thank you all for sharing this.

    1. glad you enjoyed it, judith. thanks to jilliene for curating the program. we’re hoping to make the subject a regular feature of the framework:afield series.
