2025 was declared the international year of glaciers’ preservation by the united nations: “this is an opportunity to raise global awareness about the critical role of glaciers, snow and ice in the climate system and the hydrological cycle, and the economic, social and environmental impacts of the impending changes in the earth’s cryosphere,” and as such, forms of minutiae is presenting a series of albums dedicated to glaciers and the acoustic multiplicity of the ice with field recording. the first for us is ludwig berger‘s crying glacier, billed as a collaboration with vadret da morteratsch, the peak in the swiss alps where these recordings were gathered.
these glacial sounds are accompanied by works made from found sounds gathered from abandoned media by nicolussi, displaced ambisonic recordings by natasha barrett, and sonic landscapes peppered with synthesizer and the voice of susana lópez. also, the latest collection of listener-chosen favorites from the aporee soundmaps (this time from the usa, the uk, lithuania, and costa rica), and a framework introduction recorded for us in belgium by peter wullen.
