we are very glad to be back home after a month on the road in the united kingdom – the weather her in southeast estonia is amazing; hot, sunny, breezy, blue skies, and miraculously free of mosquitoes. i’ve heard tell that the forests are already resplendent with chanterelle mushrooms; i’ll be going to check out that rumor tomorrow. in the meantime we are finally preparing our first ever summer edition of framework:seasonal, which will begin shipping as soon as the last necessary element, an inkpad, arrives at our front door! we’ll be making an official announcement imminently, but in the meantime a little poke: framework:seasonal issue #5, summer 2013, is now available for preorder (shipping by the end of this week) in exchange for a donation of €20 or more made from the framework website. this is a great edition, and you won’t regret it, so go show your generosity today and support framework radio!

but what will you be getting, you ask? framework:seasonal issue #5, summer 2013, has been edited and compiled by mark vernon, who describes the release thusly: “Collected together for the first time on this CD are a selection of vintage amateur field recordings from two East Midlands tape clubs: The Derby Tape Recording Club and The Leicester Tape Recording Club… The little known phenomenon of tape recording clubs reached its peak in the 60s and 70s, as tape recording technology became more attainable to the hobbyist… The variety and imagination displayed here is a testament to the pioneering spirit of a dedicated group of amateurs, our forebears in the pursuit of recorded sound.”

meanwhile, this edition features compositions by marc behrens, soundscapes by douglas benford,  volcanic recordings by geir jenssen (aka biosphere), abstractions by francisco meirino, vibrating metal by jay-dea lopez, and, excitingly (for me anyhow) the very first field recording by my father, daniel mcginley.
