the last regular edition of this fine year of 2008 – we have one more show this year, our last framework:afield, coming next week, produced by ruben garcia and slavek kwi (who’s project artificial memory trace, coincidentally, is also featured in this edition) and featuring the mamori sound project, an artist residency in the amazonian rain forest organised each year by francisco lopez. a fine way to end the year. meanwhile this week we explored the site specific recordings of murmur; please note the pair of u’s therein! this, for once, is not an exercise in self-promotion, this is in fact another murmur altogether, a group in the u.s. that records site-specific instrumental improvisations, for this album inside a fermentation tank in an old distillery. these went well with another one of dan warburton‘s sound walks, the aforementioned artificial memory trace, and a few tracks from maine’s enthralling crank sturgeon – i played a gig with matt earlier this year in paris and his performance was exceptional, and to my great pleasure there are a few tracks on the cdr he gave me that i could get away with playing on a field-recording radio show.
