greetings, listeners, and happy new (y)ear! you are back, we are back, and 2026 has begun. framework radio has begun as well, entering into our 26th calendar year of broadcasting, which we are sure you are very happy about. we ended 2025 with our usual holiday plea for generosity, pointing out that we rely on you to make this show possible, and guess what? it garnered almost no reaction whatsoever! we know, we know, everyone’s begging for donations all the time, but boy, getting people to support a free thing that they love (i hope) with a tiny bit of dosh (like, really tiny) is really, really hard. if anyone has any pointers for me, or knows any accomplished fundraisers who want to help a project out, or can simply give a little to support their (or at least my) favorite radio show, get in touch and let me know, or just go to https://patreon.com/frameworkradio and sign yourself up!
after taking a break for our aporee soundmaps segment to end the year, we made up for it in this show, celebrating the start of 2026 with a collection of recordings from the maps made either on new year’s eve or on new years day. so, yes, lots of fireworks, recorded in germany, poland, the uk, and cyprus; with more meditative new year’s day sounds recorded in belgium, lithuania, france, and mozambique. along with these sounds we explored 3 recent (one upcoming) releases as well: ian wellman interprets sounds from the 2025 california wildfires in his just-out release on elevator bath; annette vande gorne collects diverse works spanning 5 decades on her release with persistence of sound; and audiobulb and driftworks collaborate on a new sublabel called SITE, which invites artists to recreate their personal perception of a location, the first being by composer and opera singer alice deville, aka XII sound. that release will be out within this coming week, so although we only currently find it on audiobulb‘s soundcloud page, i presume it will also appear on their bandcamp page from january 23rd. we began the show with a framework introduction recorded at fukuma train station in southern japan by thomas martin nutt.
finally, with this first show of the year, we also welcome a new station to the framework fold: radio UAP is based at the university of fine arts in poznań, poland, and broadcasts 24 hours a day from https://radio.uap.edu.pl/. they’re airing framework at 22:00 local time on mondays, and repeating it at 19:00 on sundays. we’re very happy to have them join the framework family, and we urge you to go and check them out!
