the final show of the year sounds great to me. we took a week off from our usual aporee maps segment (don’t know what that is? check out https://aporee.org) in order to fit one extra release into the playlist. and then, you know what? we brainlessly forgot to announce it. we mentioned our good, good friend manja ristić at the top of the show, and used her album cover in this edition’s icon, but then when we got to the part where we tell you a little something about the releases we’re hearing, we just flubbed it. too anxious to get to the eggnog, i guess. but manja’s new line imprint release is, needless to say, wonderful. it is a triptych of works about sentience: “it moves through a world saturated with voices — an intricate weave of physics, chemistry, biology — where nothing is silenced, nothing excluded.” don’t take our on-air blunder as a lack of appreciation.
meanwhile the textures of tomáš šenkyřík‘s 1m² (an audio concept close to my heart already), the orchestras in fletina‘s objects & materials, the multitude of levels in francisco lopez‘s cryptic chapters, the vocal resonances in florence cats‘ shells, and the winds created as john roach and company bow down their heards, have made for a somehow uplifting final surge towards 2026. happy holidays to everyone, and happy solstice (yes! the days have started getting longer already!), and hear you in the new (y)ear!
