2. Abigail Baffoe – Dawn Chorus and Antrophonies at Bobiri Butterfly Sanctuary, Accra, Ghana (excerpt)

This recording was done at 4am at the Bobiri Forest Reserve and Butterfly Sanctuary in the Ashanti Region, Kumasi, Ghana.
The dawn soundscape is vibrant and in some parts, intense with chorus insects, tree frogs, and subtle mechanical and human activity.
Varying rhythms and granular intensities can also be aurally monitored.
The Bobiri Forest Reserve and Butterfly Sanctuary was created in 1939 with an area of 54.65 km2 (21.10 sq mi).
It is an ecotourism centre and the only butterfly sanctuary in West Africa.
It is located on the main Accra – Kumasi Highway at the village of Kubease, about 30 kilometres (19 mi) from Kumasi.
The ecosystem is a moist, semi-deciduous tropical rainforest characterised by massive trees, over 400 species of butterflies, and more than 120 species of birds. The area is a prime example of a near-primary forest, which is preserved by its designation as a protected reserve and a major component of its thriving biodiversity.
The ecosystem supports diverse plant and insect life, including species that feed on decaying organic matter, nectar, or minerals from the soil. It also serves as a research reserve.

Pablo Picco – Ambiente vaso lleno de abejas con gaseosa – Termas de Quicho, Córdoba, Argentinia, 2025

I record this bees in north Córdoba in may of this year.
The place is “monte” and very dry, almost a desert.
We went there to swim in termal waters and suddenly
I found that a glass of soda was full of bees trying to suck the sweet liquid.
Carufeully I placed the mic nearby and start to record it.

F. Boy Sinaga – Sungai Tangkahan, North Sumatra

This work records activity on the Tangkahan River, re-presenting its historical traces through a richly layered soundscape. From the era of illegal logging to its transformation into a conservation space, each sound captures fragments of the changes that have occurred in water flow, human activity, and the revitalization of wildlife.

This piece is one of my recent works, exhibited at the National Gallery of Indonesia as part of the KRITIK! Rules Of The Game exhibition.

Tossapol B. – Near the Pond, behind the house, Phichit Province, Thailand

near the pond, behind the house was recorded in December 2025. It’s my wife’s house in Phichit.
There is a big pond that’s calm and people come to catch fish.
I love to come to record sound of birds and tree every year.

Adrian Socko Novellino – Three Recordings from “Bichos & Bugs”, Cordoba Province, Argentinia

The first track captures the sound of a multicolored grasshopper (Zoniopoda tarsata, commonly known as the tucura multicolor)
together with the call of a southern lapwing “Tero” (Vanellus chilensis).
The recording was made on the shores of the artificial lake at Dique Los Molinos.
The second track consists of a feedback interplay produced by chacana mortars,
recorded by the San Marcos River, while I perform using various ocarinas.
The third track was recorded in a forest along the road to Ongamira.
It is a field recording in which I work with looped metal cans,
exploring the reverberations they produce, while rufous-bellied thrushes Zorzal Colorado (Turdus rufiventris)
accompany the scene with their evening songs.
Two recorders were used for these recordings:
a Sanyo C1110 tape recorder and a Zoom H1 digital recorder.
Both were paired with vintage Telefunken microphones and a Sony ECM-MS907.

F. Boy Sinaga – Danau Siombun, North Sumatra

This work begins with sound recordings of Mandailing children bathing in Lake Siombun.
“Siombun” means “the mist.” Mist does not grow, it emerges when the condiditions are right. Like knowledge, culture, and civilization, it is not born instantly but shaped through encounters between environment, experience and time. a continuos dialogue between humans and nature.

This piece is one of my recent works, exhibited at the National Gallery of Indonesia as part of the KRITIK! Rules Of The Game exhibition.

Tossapol B. – Water pump, along Khwae Noi River, Kanchanburi Province, Thailand

It was recorded in summer 2025, it’s a morning along the river. The pump was unused, but there were small sounds of water drops. The Khwae Noi River is in the west of Thailand. We can hear many bird sounds.
