several contrasting strategies in this week’s show: we hear pristine unaltered (but skillfully organised) natural sounds by martina testen and simon šerc, whose nocturnal forest recordings were gathered over 10 years in slovakia and italy; memory-driven collages of human activity by the great brunhild ferrari, who tells us: “this piece was composed at the end of 2024 with this feeling of wandering, of strolling in my memories that I was able to capture with my ears, my eyes, my nose, all my sensations, things that my life is made of and that I keep almost like treasures”; intense cut n’ paste structural fragments of interaction with found materials and trash by eamon sprod, once known as tarab (he credits here “floors, walls, ceilings, corridors, chairs, tables, air-conditioners, heaters, alarms, plastic, paper, foil, tins, boxes, containers, microphones, speakers, shellac, tape, magnets, dust, data, hollows, surfaces, bodies, actions, weather, vibration”); and minimal studio gatherings of small objects, metal detritus, and battery-powered thingamajigs, explored and recorded without manipulation or amplification by rie nakajima and david toop.
meanwhile, our aporee journeys this week remain in europe, traveling between italy, germany and poland, although we started the show across the pond, with a lakeside recording of thunder and rain on a roof in ontario, canada by professor, phonographer, and private investigator william denton.
