Employee Handbook is a tripartite sound project. The background, the sonic fabric holding it all together, comes from a summer week of recording the decay of a dead grackle. One mic inside the bird, one mic outside. Passing traffic, neighborhood sounds, flies, then swelling maggots. It’s lovely, if you don’t know what the sound source is.
The other two elements come from found cassette tapes. Disparate industrial teaching materials, meant to accompany slide shows. Note the attending beeps. The first, To be used with Gullifty’s Menu Food Slides: Tray #2, Slides 1-43. (Do not remove from restaurant). The second, Soaps, Detergents, and the Environment. The Soap and Detergent Association 1972.
