our first regular regular edition since we’ve been back from our summer break, after our tribute to arsenije jovanović to open the season two weeks back. we took a look at our submissions pile this week and decided to focus on collaborations – we could do 3 or 4 shows with this focus actually (and maybe we will!), but we made a small selection of recent submissions featuring one-off collaborations in which one or both artists are already known to the program. in some cases they feature one artist working with field recordings while the other works with instrumental/other sources, in others both work with found sounds.

éric la casa & jérôme noetinger, two french artists of some repute, bring us “an exploration of buildings emptied of their activities, a crossing of spaces abandoned by their occupants, a drift through the ghostly trace of a vanished presence, a testimony to the general deterioration underway that also applies to the very medium of recording” (in noetinger’s own words), while kate carr & david donohoe use “a combination of field recordings, instruments and natural materials gathered from across the island [of sherkin, in cork, ireland]… trac[ing] the transformation of a landscape as a storm passes through it.”

both manja ristić and bruno duplant collaborate with piano players;  anja lauvdal accompanies ristić’s pre-recorded tape, violin, field & hydrophone recordings, electronics, objects, and found sounds with piano, pump organ and synthesizer, while judith wegmann brings yamaha grand piano into the mix with duplant’s acoustic and electronic devices.

all this was mingled with a selection of recent listener-chosen favorites from the aporee soundmaps: this week a blackbird from the uk, a train station in japan, and rising tide waters lapping against a car-sized chunk of glacier in alaska. and it all began with a rainy framework introduction recorded for us in japan by regular contributor james bailey.
