a ruminating, introspective show this week, featuring some spoken word: the most recent release by annea lockwood, featuring recordings of the ‘peace lines’, the walls separating catholic and protestant areas in belfast, and a collaboration with composer and percussionist vanessa tomlinson. also an experimental audio memoir by umi hsu, that follows their “exploration of where memory is held. after having immigrated to the united states as a pre-teen 33 years ago, i return to sites significant to my life in taiwan: the apartment building i grew up in, walks i took with family, the school i attended, and more.” meanwhile éric la casa presents recordings made in maritime ports, “rooted in documentary reflection, [they] present the unembellished sounds of commercial ports and their coastlines.” and we sample a 22 hour radio piece that sets up a generative sound machine created for radio art zone in 2022 by lokaalraadio, a collaboration between estonian artists katrin essenson, hello upan and raul keller. and of course, we heard some recent listener-chosen favorites from the aporee maps, this week from france (capture and coline de valence), macau (mango_007), and germany (radio aporee itself). and we started it all off with a framework introduction recorded at west middle school in columbia, missouri in the united states by robert cunningham.
